It isn’t often that I meet one of my students in a store. I was shopping in the cosmetics department recently when one of my young charges appeared by my side. I was eyeing a lipstick when he exclaimed…
“You’re gonna need more than that!”

To Poetikat – Well said.
To The Bug – Me too.
To Pete – Vicious the remark. Innocent the child.
Ooh! Burn!
You know, I often think that myself – & drag out the foundation & eyeliner
Vicious!
Trust a kid to say whatever pops into his or her head! Just gotta laugh.
I work with 25 little students. You should hear what they tell me. It’s hard to keep a straight face.

To Nathalie – Thanks for the visit. All of the stories are true and those are the words of the children.
To Patti – Thank you.
To Willow – I am happy you are here. I wish all children were as comfortable as he.
To Tumblewords – You’re right. It’s their candor I most enjoy. Thank you for your comment.
Ouch!
Excellent choice though. I also like the other lipstick story. Also real?
What a wonderful story! I can just imagine your reaction.
I love that he felt comfortable enough with you to say what he did!
There’s not much hidden thought in these young kids – takes them a while to learn to learn doublespeak. Funny story – one learns not to cry.
I guess I wasn’t the only one who immediately thought “..out of the mouths of babes.” I loved the story but I’m so sorry it was true!
I am happy you are here.
I know that kid as I know all of my kids.
Don’t be sorry.
Haha! Out of the mouths…
(Little “darling”)
Children can be very funny.
Isn’t it great being part of the country’s education delivery system? You get even less respect than is paid to the men and women in brown who deliver packages for UPS. Here in the Sunshine State (Florida), our worthy politicians are hard at work to eliminate tenure, and to make all pay increases dependent on test results. After all, students are customers, right? Which means education should be run like a business. Ultimately, the right-wing goal is to eliminate public education altogether. And you can be sure this goal will be sold as perfectly consistent with our “core values.”

To Bknister – Amen. The upside is…the youngest of our citizens get to me before they get to the political arena. Perhaps the seeds I am planting will sprout a more understanding politician. It pays to be a kindergarten teacher (or, maybe it’s payback).
To Sun Dance Hill – I couldn’t agree more. That’s why I write this blog.
To Aoife.Troxel – I’ve been a pre-school teacher way too long to be embarrassed by my students’ remarks. I’ve grown to expect them.
To Jane Jones – I can’t be disappointed because I’m constantly reiterating the importance of the children to always tell the truth. Besides, that kid just might have a point.
Oh delightful “out of the mouths of babes”… they are so sweet when still so innocent. Great job with the photo prompt.
haha How embarrassing but funny (and cute). I was wondering if it was true…that must have made you blush
oops just realized you are a “pre-school” teacher. Rather than the 1500 word essay by Monday, perhaps a funny smirk would show a tinge of disappointment in the direct honesty. From the mouth of babes, eh?
My reply; And you, young person;”you’ll need to write a 1500 word essay titled; “What not to say to your teacher at the cosmetic counter.” Please have the essay on my desk by Monday. (SNAP!)
I wouldn’t want to teach in that school — good use of the magpie prompt,,
Joanny
Thanks Joanny.
I was wondering if the story conformed to the parameters of Magpie.
Also…it’s truly a joy to work at my school. My class is filled with pre-school students who have not yet learned to lie nor ‘fudge the truth’. Their honesty is refreshing.
